Biography
Professor Amanda Davies is a social scientist with expertise in demography, population geography and rural and regional development.[1]
She is currently a professor and head of school at the School of Social Sciences, and Adjunct Professor at Curtin University's School of Molecular and Life Sciences.[2]
She also is one of Australia's leading public commentators on population and demographic issues and she also closely works with the Australian government[3] and she is currently a principal investigator on 5 major projects, including:
- Rural volunteering (ARC Linkage; Volunteering Australia)
- Economic development pathways and responsiveness in mining transition (CRC TiME)
- Population mobility in the digital economy
- Counterurbanisation and COVID (ARC) [4]
Davies began her position at UWA in 2020, prior to which she was Senior Lecturer in the Department of Planning and Geography at Curtin University.[5] She is also the youngest person to be appointed as a full professor of Geography at UWA and the first female to be appointed as the head of the School of Social Sciences.[6]
Amanda obtained her Bachelors of Science (Hons. A1) from UWA and Doctor of Philosophy from New England and has also completed further study at Oxford University, Melbourne University and Victoria University of Wellington.[7]
In 2016 she and Samantha Hall were part of a mission to Antarctica.[8][9][10]
