American Camp (Bengali: আমেরিক্যান ক্যাম্প) is a village located in Parbatipur Municipality, Parbatipur Upazila, Dinajpur District in the division of Rangpur, Bangladesh.
Demographics
The population is about 1580. Male 840 and female 740.
Urbanization
American Camp is one of the oldest villages in Parbatipur. The village was established in 1945 by the British military during World War II and was also used for Bangladesh liberation War in 1971 .
The American Camp is located in the western part very close to the Parbatipur bus terminal. This village is very green and good enough place to live and very promising and fast growing.
American camp peoples are very hardworking. Most of the people are day laborers and light trades. About 98% of the people in the village are connected to electricity supply. The village has a mosque, Eidgah grounds and a large playground. There are five ponds around the village on the western side of the American camp and a bypass road connects it to the Sarkar Para.
Formerly the American Camp was under No. 3 Rampur Union and Ward No. 2, now it belongs to Parbatipur Municipality.
Rickshaws, vans, bicycles and motorcycles are the main forms of transport used within the village.
Water system
Tube well water is used.
Education
The American camp has a private (BRAC-NGO) school for primary education but no government primary school. Education rates are much better than before (male 40%, female 30%). Social awareness among them is increasing day by day. due to poverty the school dropout rate is very high in recent days.
