Myriam Fares (Arabic: ميريام فارس, mīryam fāris; born 3 May 1983) is a Lebanese singer, actress, and entertainer.[1] Myriam began her career in 2003, and released her debut single "Ana Wel Shoq". Following the success of that single, she released her self-titled debut studio album Myriam (2003). She is known in the Arab world as the "Queen of The Stage" for her unique performances[2] and for being one of the only female Arab artists to perform choreographed dance routines while singing live on stage.[3]
Her fifth studio album Aman (2015) broke record for being the most played album on the streaming service Anghami[4] and also made her acting debut with the TV series Itiham.[5] In 2021, Fares starred in her own Netflix documentary film Myriam Fares: The Journey which made her the first Middle Eastern and Arab artist to release a documentary on Netflix, with it ranking at number 1 in several countries worldwide.[2] Her 2018 single "Goumi" gained popularity on TikTok after a viral dance challenge created by Fares herself and has surpassed 10 billion total views.[6] Myriam joined forces with Nicki Minaj and Maluma in 2022 on the official FIFA World Cup single "Tukoh Taka"[7]
Tukoh Taka
In 2022, Fares collaborated with Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj and Colombian singer Maluma on the official FIFA World Cup single "Tukoh Taka".[8] “Tukoh Taka” is described as a “cross-continental banger” with an energy-packed collaboration from Minaj, Maluma and Fares combining English, Spanish and Arabic lyrics.[9][10] Myriam participated in the composition, arrangement and choreography of "Tukoh Taka".[11] The song reached number one on iTunes in the United States, making it the first World Cup song in history to achieve this position.[12]
Myriam Fares: The Journey on Netflix
In 2021, Netflix chose Myriam as the first Arabic Artist to make a documentary film on her personal life. The documentary recounts Real-life experiences in Myriam’s personal and professional life.[13] Netflix documentary: “Myriam Fares: The Journey” was intentionally released During the Covid-19 pandemic since people all over the world were not able to connect socially. Myriam found it empathetic to share for the first time how she and her family coped with this situation. It happened that she discovered that she was pregnant during Covid-19, so she wanted to share detailed pregnancy stages. The documentary achieved great success revealing her personal life for the first time, from pregnancy and delivery to music and studio preparations.[14] [15]Immediately after its release, the documentary ranked number 1 for 2 weeks in the Arabic and International films category, as well as Netflix documentaries, and series, remaining in the top 10 list for 2 months.[16] “Myriam Fares: The Journey” consistently ranked among the top searched titles on Netflix in the region, for the duration of its broadcast. Myriam ended the documentary in a music video for the new release “Ghaddara Ya Dounya”.
Goumi
When Myriam released the song “Goumi” in 2018, Myriam thought that she will not be able to stand on stage ever to perform as usual. However, she found herself producing a song that encouraged girls to stand up and dance and she meant herself. Following a dance challenge that Myriam launched on her Instagram for “Goumi”, the song went viral, not only in the Arab region but also around the world. In a surprising turn of events, in 2022, TikTok announced in its official reports that it had achieved an astounding 8.4 billion views. To date, the “Goumi” challenge surpassed an astonishing 10.2 billion views. This song has achieved great popularity both within the Arab and international music on TikTok. [17][18]
