The Dr. Ambedkar Nagar-Patalpani section of the Western Railway Zone is an under-construction public transit system in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It connects Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (MHOW) with Patalpani as part of the Akola-Ratlam line. It is currently undergoing gauge-conversion as a single-track electrified Broad-Gauge railway line.[1]

The tentative time of completion of the project is slated to be March 2024. The work is being done by Ratlam railway division of Western Railways.[2]

History

The track was part of the erstwhile 'Holkar Railway' meter-gauge railway line between Indore and Khandwa during the 1870s during the British Rule.[3]

Later, after India gained independence, the railway track became part of the North-South rail line between Ajmer and Secunderabad.[4]

Current status

The construction work for the gauge-conversion from meter gauge to broad gauge is going on and is expected to be complete by March 2024.
