Nguyễn Văn Quyết (born 1 July 1991) is a Vietnamese professional footballer who plays as a winger or a forward for V.League 1 club Hà Nội and the Vietnam national team.

Nguyễn Văn Quyết started his career with Thể Công before moving to V.League 1 side Hanoi FC in 2011, where he established himself as one of the best player in the league. He won thirteenth trophies at Hanoi, including five V.League 1 titles, three National Cups and five Super Cups.

A youth international for Vietnam from under-19 to under-23 level, Văn Quyết made his senior debut in 2011.

International career

Nguyễn Văn Quyết's debut for the senior national team came on 29 June 2011, against Macau where he came on as a substitute and scored a goal in a 6–0 home win in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification.[1]

Văn Quyết was called up to the 22-man Vietnamese squad for the 2012 AFF Championship. He played in two matches, against Philippines and Thailand.

Under coach Park Hang-seo , despite being one of the most experienced players in the squad at that time, Van Quyet proved unsuitable for the coach's fast-paced defensive play Korean people. Van Quyet was elected captain of the Vietnamese team at the AFF Cup 2018. However, his performance in the championship that year was very lackluster when not using a minute in the semi-finals and finals. In the following tournaments of coach Park Hang-seo, Van Quyet was also not called up to the national team for the simple reason that he did not match the Korean coach's playing philosophy. Mr. Park Hang-seo's style of play is defensive and he often uses fast-paced players at the top to get ready for quick counter-attacks, this way of playing is different from the Ha Noi club. When this team always plays offensive attacks and Van Quyet is always defaulted to be the leader, regulating the appropriate play even though he is always surrounded by the best stars such as Quang Hai, Hung Dung, Samson, Omar.

The stable performance in the Hanoi FC shirt in the 2022 season helped Van Quyet to be called back to the national team by coach Park Hang-seo in the September 2022 rally. At the national friendly tournament. Hung Thinh 2022 , he played impressively and scored in both matches of the Vietnamese team. At the AFF Cup 2022, Mr. Park's last tournament with the Vietnamese team, Quyet was on the list of participants, but he was not used much by the Korean teacher. Specifically, Van Quyet played only 4 matches (2 main kicks, 2 substitutes) with 247 minutes on the pitch and no goals. He continued to be not in the priority of deploying the familiar scheme of the Korean military leader.

On 13 March 2016, in a match against Sanna Khánh Hòa, Quyết was sent off after pushing over the referee who had just made a controversial call.[5]
