Dennis Joseph Murphy (January 8, 1932 – August 28, 2023) was a major general in the United States Marine Corps who served as commander of the 2nd Marine Division from 1984 until his retirement in 1987. He graduated in 1953 from Georgetown University, where he played for the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team.[1][2][3] He died in Wyckoff, New Jersey on August 28, 2023, at the age of 91.[4]
