All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is an American professional wrestling promotion based in Jacksonville, Florida, and is considered the second largest wrestling promotion in the United States behind WWE. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines.
There are currently nine total championships in AEW, with five singles championships, one traditional tag team championship, and one six-man tag team championship for male wrestlers, and two singles championships for female wrestlers. Championships from AEW's sister promotion Ring of Honor are also occasionally defended on AEW programming; its titles can be found at the Ring of Honor article.
As of January 17, 2024, 12 wrestlers hold AEW's championships. This list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout.
Overview
The American professional wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotes several professional wrestling championships for its men's and women's divisions. AEW often broadcasts championship matches on their weekly television programs—Wednesday Night Dynamite, Friday Night Rampage, and Saturday Night Collision—as well as television specials, including Battle of the Belts. Championship defenses also occur at the promotion's periodic pay-per-view events.
Men
Singles
At the top of AEW's championship hierarchy for male wrestlers is the AEW World Championship. It is held by first-time champion Samoa Joe, who defeated MJF at Worlds End on December 30, 2023.[1]
Secondary titles for male wrestlers include the AEW TNT Championship, the AEW International Championship, and the AEW Continental Championship. The TNT Championship is a television championship, the International Championship has a special attribute in which it can be defended in other promotions globally, while the Continental Championship is a component of what is promoted as a Triple Crown Championship (alongside the ROH World Championship and NJPW Strong Openweight Championship), allowing it to be defended in AEW, Ring of Honor (ROH), and New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).
The International Championship is held by record two-time title holder Orange Cassidy, who defeated Rey Fenix at Dynamite: Title Tuesday on October 10, 2023.[2] The TNT Championship is held by Christian Cage, who is in his second reign. He defeated Adam Copeland on December 30, 2023, at Worlds End; Cage had lost the title to Copeland just minutes before in a No Disqualification match but then used a contract won by his Patriarch member Killswitch earlier in the night to get an immediate rematch.[3] The Continental Championship is held by Eddie Kingston, who became the inaugural champion on December 30, 2023, at Worlds End by defeating Jon Moxley in the finals of the AEW Continental Classic tournament.[4]
The FTW Championship is a tertiary level championship, considered (in storyline) as an unsanctioned "outlaw" title. It is held by record-tying two-time champion Hook, who defeated Jack Perry in an FTW Rules match on August 27, 2023, during the All In Zero Hour pre-show.[5]
Tag Team
The AEW World Tag Team Championship is AEW's traditional tag team title, being contested by teams of two wrestlers. It is held by Ricky Starks and Big Bill, who are in their first reign, both as a team and individually. They won the title by defeating FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) on the October 7, 2023, episode of Collision.[6]
The AEW World Trios Championship is a six-man tag team championship, contested by teams of three wrestlers, referred to as trios. It is held by first-time champions The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) and Billy Gunn, who defeated The House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews) in a House Rules No Holds Barred match on August 27, 2023, at All In.[7]
Women
At the top of AEW's championship hierarchy for female wrestlers is the AEW Women's World Championship. It is held by record-tying three-time champion "Timeless" Toni Storm, who defeated Hikaru Shida at Full Gear on November 18, 2023.[8]
The secondary title for female wrestlers is the AEW TBS Championship, which is also a television championship. It is held by first-time champion Julia Hart, who defeated previous champion Kris Statlander and Skye Blue, who she pinned, in a three-way match at Full Gear on November 18, 2023.[9]
