On July 26, 2022, a murder-suicide took place in Fairbanks, Alaska when 4 members of a family were killed in their home due to a familicide. The shooter turned out to be the brother of the three victims, Kiefer Mott. The victims were Mercedes Mott, 17, Ryker Mott, 8, and Miura Mott, 5, before turning the gun on himself.[1] The other three children were asleep upstairs.

Background

When two of the kids woke up and heard gunshots, they went downstairs to see their siblings deceased. When the neighbors arrived, they immediately called the Police department. The parents, Nathan and Cherrie Mott, were not home during the incident.[2] There is no real motive as to why Kiefer decided to kill his three siblings as trooper DeSpain said “The only person - people - that know what really happened in that moment are deceased," [3]

Aftermath

The family ultimately forgave Kiefer for what he did as he was buried alongside his siblings. Their caskets were covered in stickers.[4] The Mott Family states in there GiveSendGo page, that it wasn't out of anger, or mental illness, and that it was not the reason why he killed his siblings.
