The 2024 ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup is an international limited-overs cricket tournament that is scheduled to be held in South Africa from January to February 2024.[1] It is scheduled to be the fifteenth edition of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. India are the defending champions. Initially Sri Lanka were the host nation but later it was shifted to South Africa due to suspension of International Cricket Council (ICC) over Sri Lanka Cricket Board.[2]
Qualification
Sixteen teams are set to participate in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup South Africa 2024, engaging in 41 matches. Eleven teams secured automatic qualification based on their standing as the best-placed Full Member nations in the previous 2022 event, including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe. The remaining five positions were determined through regional qualification pathways. The Americas and EAP regions each hosted a qualifying event in 2023, with winners earning spots at the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. Africa, Asia, and Europe followed a two-step qualification structure involving Division 2 Qualifiers in 2022 and subsequent Regional Qualifiers in 2023. Only the victors from the Regional Qualifiers earned berths in the Sri Lanka 2024 event. Notably, Nepal secured qualification through the Asia Qualifier, New Zealand progressed as winners of the East Asia Pacific Qualifier, Namibia triumphed in the Africa Qualifier, Scotland emerged victorious in the Europe Qualifier, and the USA secured the final spot by defeating hosts Canada in a decisive fixture. This comprehensive qualification process delineates the diverse pathways through which teams earned their positions in the prestigious tournament. The first qualification tournament was the Europe Division 2 Qualifier played in August 2022.[3] The Sri Lankan cricket team is suspended till further notice by ICC and hence their hosting as well as participation status in this tournament is in danger.[2]
Nepal became the first team to qualify through regional qualification by defeating UAE in the Asia Qualifier.[4]

Umpires
On 10 January 2024, the ICC appointed the match officials for the tournament. Along with the sixteen umpires, Graeme Labrooy, Narayanan Kutty, Shaid Wadvalla and Wayne Noon were named as the match referees.[5]
Squads
Each team selected a squad of fifteen players for the tournament, excluding reserves, with England being the first team to name their squad.[6]
In January 2024, a week before the start of the 2024 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, Cricket South Africa removed David Teeger from the captaincy while retaining him in the World Cup squad.[7] In a statement, CSA explained that "We have been advised that protests related to the war in Gaza can be anticipated at the venues for the tournament. We have also been advised that they are likely to focus on the position of the SA Under-19 captain, David Teeger, and that there is a risk that they could result in conflict or even violence, including between rival groups of protestors. CSA has a primary duty to safeguard the interests and safety of all those involved in the World Cup and must accordingly respect the expert advice of those responsible for the safety of participants and spectators. In all the circumstances, CSA has decided that David should be relieved of the captaincy for the tournament. This is in the best interests of all the players, the SA U19 team and David himself."[8]
Format
16 teams were divided into four groups, namely Group A, B, C, D. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage. The fourth-placed teams in Group A and D will face each other while the fourth-placed teams in Group B and C will face each other in the placement stage.
In the super-six stage top three teams from Group A and D will be combined in a group while top three teams from Group B and C will combined in another group. Each team will carry forward the number of points, Wins, NRR they have earned against their fellow super-six qualifying teams.
Each team will play two matches in the super-six stage against the opponent from the corresponding group that finished in a different group stage position (i.e. the A1 team will play only D2 and D3 in the super-six. Similarly, A2 will play only D1 and D3 and so forth).
The top two teams from each group in the super-six stage will then reach to the semi-finals.[9]
