The 2025 Danish local elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 18 November 2025.[1] All local and regional councillors in Denmark's 98 municipalities and five regions will be up for election.
Background
Every four years, on the third tuesday in November, local elections are held in Denmark. All 98 municipalities and 5 regions hold elections simultaneously on this date.
Electoral system
A total of 103 elections is held during Danish local election, with 2,436 members being elected to the 98 municipal/city councils, and 205 members being elected to the five regions of Denmark. The municipal councils have between 9 and 31 members, with the Copenhagen City Council having 55 members. The regional councils all have 41 members. All elections use the D'Hondt method to calculate number of seats. There are no electoral threshold. For these elections, electoral alliances are allowed. [2]
To be an eligible voter, you must meet the following requirements.
- Being at least 18 years old
- Having permanent residence in a municipality
In addition, you must meet one of the following criterias
- Having Danish citizenship
- Citizenship in another EU Member state
- Citizenship in Iceland or Norway
- Had permanent residence in the Danish Realm for the last 4 years, prior to the election date
