Reception
D. S. Ramanujam of The Hindu wrote, "Village hero Ramarajan has decided to direct the films in which he is playing the hero, an avocation he chose before he turned an actor for a series of village based movies. In Mahalakshmi International's Amman Koil Vasalilae he employs a couple of new ploys, (like indulging in a long stick duel with the villain with one hand tied behind, and carrying a whirling top in his palm and pummeling his rivals with the other) while handling a weather beaten story (story, dialogue and screenplay are also his) that would have had some response in the Sixties. He still believes in MGR type of acting going down on his knees in song and dance sequences and stretching his hand out and his now slightly thick set figure proves a hindrance in the romantic portions."[5]
