Battery Jasper is a military extension of Fort Moultrie.[1] Built in 1897, it housed multiple weapons due to its proximity to Charleston Harbor. It has a powerhouse that was built in 1910 to power the fort.[2] Only a quarter of the structure is open to the public because the rest was deemed unstable. It was named after William Jasper who was best known for rescuing a shot down South Carolina flag at the same location.[3] It is of the same style as Battery Thomson and was built close to the same time as Battery Gadsden.
