Calcium is a rural locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2016 census, Calcium had a population of 21 people.[1]

Geography

Manton is a neighbourhood within the locality (19°39′00″S 146°50′00″E / 19.65°S 146.8333°E / -19.65; 146.8333 (Manton)).[3]

History

The locality was named and bounded on 27 July 1991.[2] It was presumably named after the now-abandoned Calcium railway station (19°40′32″S 146°50′05″E / 19.6756°S 146.8348°E / -19.6756; 146.8348 (Calcium railway station)) on the Great Northern railway,[8] which had been named prior to 1914 after the calcium-bearing lime that was mined in the area.[9][10]

Manton takes its name from the now-abandoned Manton railway station (19°39′26″S 146°50′03″E / 19.6573°S 146.8341°E / -19.6573; 146.8341 (Manton railway station)), which takes its name from a pioneer farmer.[3]

In the 2016 census, Calcium had a population of 21 people.[1]
