The Central Science and Technology Commission (CSTC, Chinese: 中央科技委员会) is a commission of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that supervises and coordinates science and technology related policymaking across ministries, agencies, research institutes and industry.
History
The CSTC was established in 2023 under CCP general secretary Xi Jinping as part of wide-ranging reforms to change party and state structures.[1] The commission held its first meeting in July 2023.[2] The Ministry of Science and Technology subsequently announced on its website that cadres were studying the outcome of the meeting.[2]
Role and organization
The commission aims to strengthen CCP leadership over science and technology.[3] It also supervises and coordinates science and technology related policymaking across ministries, agencies, research institutes and industry.[4]
The office of the commission is located at the newly reorganized Ministry of Science and Technology.[5]
