Choi Young-il (Hangul: 최영일; Hanja 崔英一; born 25 April 1966) is a South Korean former footballer who played as a defender. He played most of his club career for Ulsan Hyundai Horang-i, and represented South Korea at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cup.

International career

Choi's violent tussles were far from fair play, but were effective at defending against a specific forward. Nicknamed the "Miura's shadow", he was noted for performing man marking against Kazuyoshi Miura when South Korea played against rival country Japan in Asian competitions.[1]
