Dave Jonathan Lamar (born December 20, 1992) is a Filipino singer, songwriter, record producer, and director.[1]
Early life
Dave Jonathan Lamar was born on December 20, 1992, in Manila, Philippines, which is why he is a Filipino by birth. He follows Christianity as his only religion and belongs to the Mixed Asian ethnicity. He is the oldest child and has one sibling, Micah Lamar.
Career
The Voice of the Philippines
In 2013, Lamar participated in the first season of a Philippine reality singing competition, The Voice of the Philippines. He performed "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" by The Script, and Sarah Geronimo selected him for her team.[2] During the Battle Round, he lost to Junji Arias and failed to advance to the Live shows. Both of them performed "Bohemian Rhapsody" by the band Queen.[3]
American Idol
In 2015, Lamar auditioned for the fourteenth season of American Idol. On January 27, he posted a photo on his X account (formerly Twitter), showing himself performing with a guitar and with the American Idol logo in the background.[4][5]
From The Sea
In 2021, Lamar and Morissette tied the knot and established a musical duo. They chose a name for their duo that originates from Lamar's last name, which translates to 'From The Sea' in Spanish.[6] In 2022, their first EP, From The Sea, was launched, serving as the soundtrack of their wedding.[7] On June 28, 2023, they released their first album, If We Never Happened.[7][1] On July 7 of the same year, the duo had their first concert together at the Music Museum titled "Feels Like Home", which also served as the launch of their debut album.[8]
Personal Life
Lamar married singer-songwriter Morissette on June 28, 2021. Prior to their marriage, they had been in a relationship for 8 years and both joined the first season of The Voice of the Philippines in 2013.[9][10]
