Douglas Arthur Smith (born June 13, 1960 in Mesic, North Carolina) is a former National Football League defensive tackle who played eight seasons for the Houston Oilers. He was drafted by the Oilers in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft. He also played for the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League. Durring his time with the Oilers, Doug was famous for having timely injuries to provide much needed rest for the defense then return to action two plays later. Many fans considered him a cagey veteran.
