The FAM-MSN Project, also known as the FAM-NSC Project, represents a significant undertaking in the realm of Malaysian men's football development. This football team is centrally located in the bustling heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where it serves as a focal point for nurturing young talents and aspiring athletes. Functioning under the direct oversight of two key organizations, the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the National Sports Council of Malaysia (NSC), this team embodies a unique synergy that prioritizes the growth and advancement of football in the country.

Participating in the MFL Cup, the team's role extends beyond that of a mere feeder club; it assumes the responsibility of a national development team, showcasing its commitment to nurturing and enhancing the potential of Malaysian football talent. Established in the year 2020, this budding team made its inaugural appearance in the highly competitive arena of the 2021 Malaysia Premier League, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey in the world of football. As for their home base, the UiTM Stadium in the city of Shah Alam is where the team gathers its fans and supporters to witness their remarkable journey in Malaysian football.[1][2]

History

On 10 December 2020, a momentous occasion transpired as the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the National Sports Council (MSN) sealed a historic partnership, giving birth to the FAM-MSN Project Squad. This innovative collaboration was designed to provide a nurturing platform for emerging football talents, and its first significant milestone was competing in the 2021 Premier League. This strategic move underscored FAM and MSN's shared commitment to forging a clear career path for the products of the National Football Development Program (PPBN) and graduates from the esteemed Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD), facilitating their seamless progression to the senior stage of Malaysian football. The FAM-MSN Project Squad's journey was not only a leap forward but a structured progression, instilling confidence and honing skills, ensuring that Malaysia continued to nurture homegrown talent and sustain the legacy of its footballing tradition.

The 2021 Premier League season, with the FAM-MSN Project Squad as a central focus, symbolized the unwavering dedication of both FAM and MSN to their vision of a thriving and dynamic football landscape. The squad's participation in the league served as a testament to their potential and a significant step toward the broader goal of fostering the next generation of football stars. In this pivotal moment in the history of Malaysian football, the FAM-MSN Project Squad not only gained invaluable experience but also carried the hopes and aspirations of a nation, demonstrating that Malaysia was committed to investing in the future of the sport while celebrating its own exceptional talents.

To begin with, a total of 30 trainees among AMD graduates, Youth Cup and President's Cup products as well as Malaysian and State Sports Schools and District Training Centers (PLD) under the NFDP will form the pilot squad starting this January. Former national player, Yusri Che Lah, was appointed to coach the team which became the 11th team to play in the Premier League as one of the measures to expose them to competitive competition throughout the season. This decision was made after a series of discussions and brainstorming between FAM and MSN over the past few months to ensure that the selected group of NFDP and AMD graduates do not miss out on competitive action at the age of 18–20.[1]

First seasons

On 6 March 2021, FAM-MSN Project played their first match against Terengganu II at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, losing 0–4. The team scored their first goal three days later against Kelantan; unfortunately, they ended up losing 1–2. Azhad Harraz scored the team's first and only goal in the match in the 7th minute. Eventually, he became the top scorer for the team in the first season, scoring 8 goals. In the 2021 season, the team scored just 12 goals, with goalscorers including Azhad Harraz, Farris Izdiham, Izuddin Muhamad Asri, Ismat Imran, and Safwan Mazlan. The club secured its first victory after 18 games played against Kelantan United, winning 1–0.[3]
