"FMUATW" (initialism for "Fuck Me Up Against the Wall")[1] is a song by American recording artist Brooke Candy, released on July 27, 2023. It was produced by Cole M.G.N. and marks Candy's fourth single since the release of her debut album Sexorcism (2019), as well as her twenty-seventh single overall.[2]

Background and release

The song was first performed as part of Candy's live set at LadyLand Festival on June 17, 2022, teased as one of the songs in the earliest batch of contenders for Candy's then-upcoming sophomore studio album, which was already large enough to be released as an EP by 2023, according to Candy.[3] On July 18, Candy announced the song's official release as a standalone single, making it available for pre-order until its release on July 27, 2023. Candy referred to the song as "the newest installment in a string of horny singles [that she] wanted to release through [the] past year" in an interview with V Magazine, which called the song a "bass-laden bop".[1] Candy dedicated the song to "all the horny divas", stating in her interview, "it's a confident anthem for when you know exactly what you want!"[1]

"FMUATW" was written by Candy alongside friend and frequent collaborator Jesse Saint John, as well as Cole M.G.N., who produced the track as well.[2] On September 22, 2023, a three-track remix EP of the song was released, featuring reworks of "FMUATW" from Croatian producer Only Fire, Greek producer Babynymph, and American producer Umru of PC Music.[4] Only Fire's remix marks his and Candy's second collaboration, following their collaborative single "Yoga", released the year prior on October 14, 2022.[5]

The song's initialized title and sonic return to trap music bears similarities to Candy's 2019 single "FMU", which appeared as the twelfth and final track on her debut album Sexorcism (2019).[6][7]

Music video

Following the Y2K theme of the music video for Candy's "Flip Phone" (2022) and the 80s theme of the music video for "Juicy Fruit" (2023), the music video for "FMUATW" has aesthetic ties to fashion and interior design of the 1970s.[8][9] The music video for "FMUATW" was self-directed by Candy and features herself dressed in blonde, 70s-themed wigs in various types and states of bondage inside a lavishly-decorated room.[1] The on-screen text in the video's intro and closing credits of the music video is also stylized in a large, bright-red font similar to the on-screen text used in 1960s and 1970s television, complimenting the music video's 1970s aesthetic and theme.[1]
