Gregory J. Marchand is an American surgeon. He is noted for his research and publications on laparoscopic hysterectomy,[1] salpingectomy,[2][3][4] and neonatology.[5]

Career

Marchand is known for developing two surgical techniques, a salpingectomy technique[6][7] and a laparoscopic cervical cerclage technique.[8][9]

Marchand has published on the effects of COVID-19 vaccination on pregnancy,[10][11][12] and other topics on neonatal medicine.[5][13]

Marchand has expressed concerns over the effects of the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine on pregnancy, saying that it could raise the risk of preterm births.[14][15] Additionally, he has voiced concerns over restrictive legislation on abortions in Arizona,[16] as well as the shortage of Ob-Gyn physicians in the United States.[17]

Marchand's notable cases include a heterotopic pregnancy, among others.[18] Marchand also currently holds a few different tumor and uterus removal records.[19]

Controversy

Marchand's techniques have been the subject of controversy secondary to the practice of morcellation,[20][21] which has the potential to spread cancer throughout the abdomen.[22]

Publications

Books

Marchand has published textbooks on laparoscopic surgery.

  • Single Port Advanced Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (2019)[23]
  • Single Port Gynecologic Laparoscopic and Robotic-Assisted Surgery (2021)[24]
