Gustav Wilhelm Belfrage (1834–1882) was an American insect collector. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, but travelled to the United States in 1860 where he settled in Bosque County, Texas.[1][2][3]
Belfrage collected thousands of insect specimens near his home and sold them to collectors and scientists all over the world.[3] Many species were first described based on specimens he collected.[2][4][5] Scientists sometimes named these newly described species after him, such as the moth Caloptilia belfragella[4] and the beetle Peploglyptus belfragei.[5]
