HoneyHole Sandwiches was a sandwich restaurant in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. The restaurant operated an outpost that rebranded as Beck's Bar and Grill. HoneyHole closed in October 2023.[1]

Description

HoneyHole Sandwiches was a sandwich restaurant with two locations in Seattle: the original on Pike Street, on Capitol Hill, and a second on Jefferson in the First Hill / Central District area.[2][3] Seattle Metropolitan has described the Pike location as a "jolly alt dive".[4]

The restaurant served hot and cold sandwiches, as well as sides such as French fries,[5][6] coleslaw, potato salad, or a house salad.[7] The menu had sandwiches named Emilio Pestovez and the Texas Tease, which has shredded barbecue chicken.[8][9] The Buford T. Justice had pork and pineapple,[10] the Daytripper had hummus,[11] and the Pilgrim was marketed as "Thanksgiving dinner on a roll".[12] The Built to Satisfy was a classic BLT.[13]

History

The restaurant was founded by brothers Sean and Devon London; Hannah Roberts was also a co-owner.[14] Kristin and Patrick Rye purchased the business in 2021.[15]

The 4,000-square-foot second location opened in 2021, adding 30 employees.[16] The outpost closed, later reopening as Beck's Bar and Grill.[17][18]

In May of 2023 former employees alleged that there had been paycheck irregularities and late payment, in addition to a toxic work environment under the management of Kristin Rye.[19][20] The couple sold the business to general manager Evan Bramer in August 2023.[21]

On October 31, 2023, Bramer was reported to have disappeared, leaving employees unpaid and unsupported.[22][23]

Reception

HoneyHole won in the Best Sandwich category of Seattle Magazine's annual readers' poll in 2018.[24] The business was included in the Daily Hive's 2021 list of Seattle's best sandwich eateries.[25] Caitlin Flynn included HoneyHole in Eat This, Not That's 2022 list of "The Best Spot to Get a BLT in Every State".[13]
