Jide Macaulay (born 4 November 1966) is an openly gay British-Nigerian man.[1] He is an LGBTQ rights activist and ordained priest of the Anglican Church of England.[2] He was born to Olakunle Macaulay and Late Helen Olusola Macaulay.[3] He is the founding Pastor and CEO of House Of Rainbow CIC, which makes society safer and more inclusive for all,[4] Nigeria's first house of worship catering for the LGBTQ community in Nigeria,[5] and was honored as 2007 Man of the Year by the UK Black LGBT for his role in helping LGBT people of faith.[6][7] "As a priest, the church allows Jide Macauly to be gay. But an outright marriage to his partner is not permitted. He can live with him in a celebrate relationship but cannot get married in the church. He risks losing his job in the church if he does."[8]

Education and Early Life

Jide Macaulay was born in London in 1966 to his Nigerian parents August and Helen Macaulay. His parents later moved the family to Nigeria, where Jide attended several primary and secondary schools. He graduated from high school in 1986[3] and went on to pursue a variety of interests and activities. Jide Macaulay is a prominent figure in Nigerian society, known for his many accomplishments. He has won numerous awards and his impact has been felt in many areas of life. His influence is wide-ranging and his work has been recognized by many. Following high school, Macaulay attended Thames Valley University London where he obtained his Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.) law degree. This was followed by a postgraduate degree in theology and a master’s degree in practical theology at Nigeria and Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge.[9] Macaulay has also received training at the Pacific School of Religion, Berkeley, California.[10]
