Justin Quincy Hubner (born 14 September 2003) is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Born in the Netherlands, he represents the Indonesia national football team.

Early life

Born in 's-Hertogenbosch,[2] he played in the youth sides of Willem II and Brabant United as well as for his hometown club Den Bosch.[3][4][5]

Club career

FC Den Bosch

As a youth player, Hubner joined the youth academy of Dutch second tier side Den Bosch.[6][7]

Wolverhampton Wanderers

In February 2020 Hubner joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Den Bosch, with his new club describing him as a left sided centre back who would go into their academy squad.[8] On 1 February 2023 the club announced Hubner had signed a new two-and-half-year contract keeping him at Wolves until June 2025.[9] He was named in a Wolves first team squad and was an unused substitute in the Premier League for the first time on 2 December 2023 away at Arsenal.[10]

International career

Netherlands youth

Hubner represented the Netherlands U-19 football team,[11][12] and on 25 March 2023 he played for the Netherlands U-20 in a friendly against France U-20.[13]

Indonesia

In October 2022 Hubner was called up to the Indonesia under-20 team.[14] Indonesia manager Shin Tae-yong pointed to the selection of Rafael Struick, Ivar Jenner, and Hubner as foreign based players ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and Indonesia hosting the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.[15][16][17]

Hubner joined the Indonesia squad for a training camp in Turkey in November 2022.[18] He was quoted as saying "I am currently in Turkey to join the Indonesian national team. I am very happy to have the opportunity to play with my friends. I hope to make Indonesia proud."[19] On 17 November 2022, he played for the Indonesia U-20 against France U-20 in a friendly match in Spain.[20] He also played against Slovakia U-20 two days later.[21]

On 2 January 2024, Hubner made his debut for the Indonesia senior team against Libya in a friendly match. On 4 January 2024, Hubner was called up for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.[22]

Personal life

Hubner’s mother is Dutch whilst his father is Indonesian, with family in Jakarta and Makassar, and his grandmother being from Bandung.[23] On 3 November 2023, Erick Thohir, the PSSI president, told the press that Hubner would be naturalized as an Indonesian as soon as possible.[24]

On 6 December 2023, Hubner officially acquired Indonesian citizenship after taking the Indonesian Citizen Oath, which is the final requirement for the naturalization of players to become an Indonesian citizen.[25]
