Komtar Bus Terminal (Malay: Terminal Bas Komtar; Chinese: 光大巴士终站) is a bus terminal in Penang, Malaysia. It is located under its namesake complex. The entrance to the terminal is located on Tek Soon Street and the exit on Jalan Ria. The terminal has 5 bus lanes and is jointly owned by the Penang state government, the Penang Island City Council, and Rapid Penang. Most buses travelling from Weld Quay Bus Terminal will pass through this terminal before continuing to their respective destinations.

History

The bus terminal was part of the first phase of the plan for the construction of Penang Urban Centre (now Komtar).

Originally, the main bus terminal was Prangin Road Bus Terminal, demolished in 1990 for construction of Prangin Mall. Prangin Road Bus Terminal was a bus terminal for private bus companies. When this terminal closed down, Komtar Bus Terminal became the main interchange station for Rapid Penang.

Throughout the terminal's history it was consistently criticised for its low cleanliness and maintenance. It was also a place where frequent mugging often occurred. The area was also a congregation area for Vagabonds and homeless until September 2023, when they were relocated to nearby homeless shelters.

On 2007, RapidPenang was introduced and became the main operator of Komtar Bus Terminal and other terminals in Penang, replacing the original private bus companies which ran long-distance bus routes. Currently the main bus services serving this terminal are short-distance routes within the island.

Bus Lanes

Bus lanes in Komtar Bus Terminal were segregated according to destination since 18 September 2009.

- Bus Lane 1 is served by buses heading to Teluk Bahang (ESCAPE Theme Park)

- Bus Lane 2 is for buses to the Penang Botanic Gardens and Air Itam

- Bus Lane 3 is for buses to Farlim and Paya Terubong

- Bus Lane 4 is for buses to Bayan Baru and Sungai Ara

- Bus Lane 5 is for buses to Balik Pulau, Batu Maung and Butterworth.
