Lasse Schäfer (born 10 June 2003 in Cologne) is a German politician from the Party of Humanists (PdH). On the 15 April 2023 in Hanover, he got elected during a party conference as chairman of the PdH. On the same day, he also got elected as the second candidate of the party for the 2024 European Parliament election.

Life

Born in Cologne, Schäfer began studying business development at the IU International University of Applied Sciences after graduating from the Humboldt-Gymnasium. He also receives scholarship from the Studienstiftung. In 2020 till 2021, he was already active in the politics of cologne as district student representative[1] in which he represented the local students during the Corona-pandemic. Besides politics, he is also the coach and an active player of a local basketball team.[2]

Lasse Schäfer was an assessor on the NRW state executive committee of the PdH from 24 October 2021 to 1 October 2022.[3] Shortly thereafter, Schäfer successfully ran for the federal executive committee at the exceptional 2022 federal party conference in Berlin on 29 October 2022.[4] Since then, he has been responsible for the external communications department of the federal party. On 15 April 2023, he was elected as Chairman by a clear majority at the ordinary Federal Party Congress in Hanover. At the time of his election as Chairman, Schäfer was the youngest Chairman of a party in Germany.[5]

On the same weekend, he got elected as the second top candidate of the party for the 2024 European Parliament election in Germany.[6] He was also the second top candidate for the party of the 2022 North Rhine-Westphalia state election.[7]
