De Witte won bronze medals in the 400 m at the 2018 European Championships and 2019 European Indoor Championships. She also won four major medals as part of Dutch women's 4 × 400 m relay team, including the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships where she ran in the heats. And she has a combined total of eight Dutch national titles in the 200 m, 400 m, and 800 m.

De Witte represented the Netherlands at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, competing in the 4 × 400 m relays and in the individual 400 m at the latter.

Early life

Lisanne de Witte was born on 10 September 1992[3] in Vlaardingen in the Netherlands.

She has a three-year-younger sister Laura de Witte, who is also a 400 metres sprinter.

Career

Sisters Lisanne (L) and Laura de Witte (R) competed in the women's 4 × 400 m relay at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Lieke Klaver (R) passes the baton to Lisanne de Witte (L) in the women's 4 × 400 m relay at Doha 2019.

De Witte represented the Netherlands at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she competed in the 4 × 400 metres relay.[3] The women's team set a new Dutch record with a time of 3:26.98 minutes in the heats, but they did not advance to the final.

In the 2018 European Championships, De Witte won a bronze medal in the 400 metres[3] and broke the national record with a time of 50.77 seconds, which remained the fastest Dutch time until 2021.

In the 2019 European Indoor Championships, she won another bronze medal in the 400 metres with a time of 52.34 seconds.[3]

De Witte represented the Netherlands again at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that were postponed to 2021. She competed individually in the 400 metres, where she ran 51.68 seconds in the heats and qualified for the semi-finals, but she did not advance to the finals.[3] She also competed in the 4 × 400 metres relay. De Witte raced in the women's event where the Dutch team set two national records, 3:24.01 minutes in the heats and 3:23.74 minutes in the final, where they became sixth. She also raced in the heats of the mixed event, where the team also set a Dutch record of 3:10.69 minutes,[3] but De Witte was replaced in the final where the Dutch record was already broken.
