Biography

Teichner was born in Traverse City, Michigan, on January 12, 1948. Her father, Hans "Peppi" Teichner, was a German-born ski instructor, who is credited with popularizing skiing in Northern Michigan, and was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 1967.[1][2] She was raised in nearby Cleveland Township, Leelanau County, nearby the Sugar Loaf Ski Resort, which her father managed. After his death in 1957, Teichner and her mother, Miriam Greene Teichner, relocated briefly to Augusta, Georgia, before settling in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. Teichner graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1965.[3][4] She received her bachelor's degree in economics from Wellesley College in 1969 and Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Chicago.[5] She began her career at CBS News and her first report was on November 8, 1977, with Walter Cronkite sitting at the anchor desk.[6]

Teichner has been a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning since December 1993.[7] She has won 10 Emmy Awards and five James Beard Foundation Awards for her work.[8]

In February 2021, Teichner published a book, When Harry Met Minnie, about her friendship with a cancer patient, a fellow dog owner.[9][10]
