Mike Maxfield (23 February 1944 – December 2023) was an English songwriter and guitarist, who came to fame as a member of The Dakotas. Born in Manchester, England, he composed their song "The Cruel Sea", which was also recorded by The Ventures (see The Ventures discography). Maxfield died in December 2023, at the age of 79.[1]
