Monterrey is a small town in Huaraz District, Huaraz Province, region of Ancash, Peru.[1] It is located some 7 km (4.3 mi) to the north of the town centre of Huaraz.[1] Monterrey is located in the Santa river valley,[2] also known as Callejon de Huaylas at 2981 m.a.s.l.[3]

Hot springs

The town is known for its hot springs, which have temperatures of 49 °C (120 °F) and have medicinal properties.[1] Water at the hot springs, which are privately run by a local hotel, is brownish due to the presence of iron.[4]

Climate

The climate at Monterrey is temperate, with warm days and cold nights,[1] being 14.3 °C (57.7 °F) the average temperature.[3]
