Nippu Ravva (transl. Fire Spark) is a 1993 Telugu-language action film, produced by M.V.Srinivas Prasad on Yuvarathna Arts banner and directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy. The film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, Vijayashanti, and music composed by Bappi Lahiri & Raj–Koti with A. R. Rahman's background score. Nippu Ravva and Bangaru Bullodu, also starring Balakrishna, were released on the same day and both ran for over 100 days.[1] It was dubbed into Tamil and Hindi as Suriya and Mawaali Raaj, respectively. It was also the last collaboration to mark actors, Vijayashanthi and Balakrishna together after featuring in several films previously and this was their 17th last pair.

Plot

The film begins with Suryam being sentenced to seven years in jail for murder. He escapes from prison and takes Vijaya, the sister of local SP Indrani, as a hostage. He takes her to a forest where the local tribe shelters him. Vijaya tries to escape but Suryam foils her plans. She eventually understands that he is not a bad person and wants to know how he came to be a convict. He tells her that he used to be a trade union leader at a coal mine owned by Balagam Dhanraj who suppressed his workers. Suryam constantly worked against Dhanraj. The engineers working at the coal mine detect that the water from the river Godavari is seeping into the coal mines and making working in them dangerous as the mines can collapse from this leakage. Dhanraj does not pay heed to their concerns. The mines eventually become flooded endangering the lives of hundreds of workers. Suryam succeeds in saving the miners and he files a case against Dhanraj for negligence. Dhanraj orders his henchman Dasu to murder the chief engineer. He then creates a case against the chief engineer painting him as the main culprit behind the mine catastrophe. Suryam pursues Dasu, but a corrupt SI Prabhakar saves Dasu and provides a fake alibi for him. After learning this, Suryam creates awareness about this issue and starts a movement against such practices. He starts a hunger strike gaining nationwide attention. Dhanraj’s son, Kumar, kidnaps Suryam’s sister Bharati and sexually assaults her to break her brother’s resolve. Dhanraj orders to have Bharati killed, but Suryam succeeds in saving her. Dasu dies by his hand during this and he is arrested for the murder.

Back to the present, Suryam seeks to get Bharati married to Kumar. On learning this, Vijaya wants to help him. Suryam demands to Indrani that he will let go of Vijaya in exchange for Kumar, but Kumar manages to elude Suryam. Indrani learns that Bharati has become pregnant from her sexual assault. She tries to resolve this through the legal system, but the process does not work as Bharati is painted as a woman of questionable character. As a result, Indrani also joins her sister Vijaya in helping Suryam in his mission. Suryam manages to abduct Kumar and take him to the forest. Kumar tries to kill Suryam, but when Suryam saves his life, Kumar changes his mind regarding everything. Dhanraj attacks Suryam in the forest. Suryam gains the upper hand. It is later proven that Dhanraj was behind all of the crimes, and he is given the death sentence. Suryam also surrenders accepting punishment for his own actions.
