Oracle is a 2023 American horror thriller film directed by Daniel Di Grado from a screenplay by Michael Ross and Corey Harrell. The film stars Ryan Destiny and Heather Graham. It was released on Max on October 1, 2023.

Plot

Shay wakes up from a troubling nightmare focusing on a door with a red glass handle. She is a college student majoring in African-American History with emphasis on the Civil War. Money is running low with Shay and her roommate. Shay takes a job babysitting Kate’s three children one late night. Kate’s house is an old plantation that has been in Kate’s family for generations. Once Kate leaves, strange things begin to happen to Shay.

The kids are never, ever able to sleep. Loud noises are heard. One kid sleepwalks, one plays with old civil war relics. The third child makes a revealing confession when she is heard screaming in the bathroom while washing her hands. Shay asks Blair what’s wrong, and Blair reveals her mom told her to wash off where Shay touched her.

Ghosts of slaves are seen running outside when the electricity goes off. Ghosts begin to torment Shay and the kids. This is why the kids cannot sleep. Shay finds the red glass door handle from her dream in one of the kitchen drawers. Then things go really bad. An old widow from an earlier photo is haunting Shay and the kids.

The cell phone reception is really bad. Her roommate calls to tell her something about the history of the house. But, Shay cannot hear it. Shay’s Uber driver shows up but meets a horrible fate.

Shay runs downstairs and sees the door with a red glass knob shaking violently. She can hear people screaming behind the door. Shay’s roommate shows up, and gets into the house using the back door. Unfortunately she is also attacked.

The boys run to the basement and Shay follows them. Kate calls to check in and Shay learns that Kate does not have a daughter! Blair tells Shay her mom, the ghost widow, is after her because she’s Black. Shay sees an old photo and learns that she is a reincarnated spirit of Blair’s slave friend Abigail. She learns that slaves were coming to save Abigail but Blair’s mother killed them.

Shay runs with Andrew out of the basement and is stopped by Blair. As they both run out of the house, Shay has a flashback and sees that the widow killed Blair. Shay is attacked by the ghost widow, but ghost slaves hold onto the widow and take her to hell. Shay is saved and apologizes to Jasmine for stabbing her. Blair’s ghost appears in the cornfields and reunites with Abigail.

Kate shows up and the boys run to her. Shay stands and looks around at the house. The movie ends as the sun begins to rise.
