Park Lane is a DART Light Rail station in northern Dallas, Texas. The elevated station is located at the intersection of Park Lane and Greenville Avenue, about 0.2 miles (0.32 km) east of North Central Expressway (US-75). The station serves the Red Line and Orange Line.[1]
The station is located near several shopping centers, most notably The Shops at Park Lane and NorthPark Center.[1] NorthPark, which is located on the opposite side of US-75, is serviced via a shuttle bus.[4]
History
Park Lane station opened on January 10, 1997 as the northern terminus of the Red Line.[2] The station was originally constructed as a ground-level platform located on the southern side of Park Lane. This location was chosen because it did not require the track to cross Park Lane, which would have required grade separation to prevent traffic congestion on the road.[5]
Construction on the Red Line's second northern extension, including a bridge over Park Lane, began in April 1999.[6] To allow for a smooth transition to the bridge, Park Lane station needed to be elevated. Instead of building near the original station, DART opted to build the new station on the northern side of the road. It opened to passenger service on June 17, 2002, two weeks before the extension to Galatyn Park was opened.[3]
The original station was fenced off but not demolished after its retirement. It is currently used by DART as a storage track.
