Pista House is known for it's Haleem, Hyderabadi biryani and biscuits and has branches in India, US and Canada.[4]
History
Pista House was established on July 27, 1997 by Mohammed Abdul Majeed a textile businessman with its first branch in Shalibanda, Hyderabad[5] Hyderabadi Haleem was introduced in the restaurant in 2002.
In 2022, Pista House set up Hyderabad's first flight-restaurant in Shamirpet; involving modifying a decommissioned Air India Airbus-320 into a sit-in restaurant.[6][7]
Hyderabadi Haleem
Haleem is a stew composed of meat, lentils and pounded wheat made into a thick paste slowly cooked on a low flame of firewood for up to 12 hours. Originally an Arabic dish, it was introduced in the erstwhile Hyderabad State by the Chaush people and is a staple in weddings and other social events especially during the month of Ramadan.[8]
Haleem was introduced in the restaurant in 2002 and in 2010 Pista House's haleem received it's Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Indian GI registry office;[9] the first for a non-vegetarian dish in India.[10] The founder, Majeed also serves as the president of the Hyderabad Haleem Makers’ Association. During the month of Ramadan several students and other youngsters are employed by Pista House to cook haleem in around 200 branches and kiosks.[11]
