Pradyut Bordoloi (28 April 1959) is an Indian National Congress politician from Assam currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Nowgong Lok Sabha constituency since 2019.[1] He was previously a four-term member of the Assam Legislative Assembly representing Margherita from 1998 to 2016, and a minister in the Government of Assam between 2001 and 2015.[2][3]
Early life
Bordoloi was born on 28 March 1958 in Margherita, Assam.[4] He graduated from Cotton College, Gauhati University with a MA, and from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a MPhil.[4] He was the President of the Assam unit of the National Students’ Union of India.[5][6]
Political career
Bordoloi was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Margherita in a by-poll in 1998,[7] and was re-elected in 2001, 2006, and 2011.[8] He was a minister of state in the First Tarun Gogoi Ministry from 2001 to 2006.[2] He held portfolios of Industries, Commerce, Power, and Public Enterprises as a senior cabinet minister in the Second Tarun Gogoi Ministry and Third Tarun Gogoi Ministry from 2006 to 2015.[2] He stepped down as a minister in the 2015 cabinet reshuffle,[2] and was subsequently appointed senior government spokesperson and advisor to the Chief Minister.[3] In 2019, Bordoloi was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nowgong.[1]
