Samuel "Samu" Omorodion Aghehowa (born 5 May 2004) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Deportivo Alavés, on loan from Atlético Madrid.
Club career
Granada
Born in Melilla to Nigerian parents,[1][2] Omorodion moved to Maracena, a municipality of Granada, at a young age.[1] After playing for local side AD Nervión, he joined Granada's youth setup in 2021.[3]
On 6 March 2022, Omorodion made his senior debut for Granada's reserve team, Recreativo Granada, coming on as a second-half substitute in a 2–1 league home loss to Marchamalo.[4] On 25 September, he scored his first senior goal, netting the B's equalizer in a 1–1 draw against El Ejido.[5]
On 20 April 2023, Omorodion renewed his contract with the Nazaríes until 2028.[2][6] Having scored 18 goals for Granada's B team throughout the 2022–23 season,[7] the forward reportedly attracted interest from various La Liga and Premier League clubs.[2][7]
On 14 August 2023, Omorodion made his first team – and La Liga – debut for Granada, starting and scoring the momentary equalizer in a 3–1 away loss against Atlético Madrid.[8][9]
Atlético Madrid
On 21 August 2023, Omorodion officially joined fellow top-tier side Atlético Madrid on a permanent deal, signing a five-year contract with the club.[10][11]
Loan to Alavés
On 26 August of the same year, Omorodion joined Deportivo Alavés, also in the Spanish first division, on loan until the end of the season.[12][13]
International career
Omorodion is eligible to represent either Nigeria or Spain internationally.[14]
In April 2023, Omorodion received his first call-up to the Spain under-19 national team.[2][15] In July of the same year, he took part in the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship in Malta,[7][16] where the Rojita lost to eventual champions Italy in the semi-finals.[17]
