Szczepan Hołowczyc[lower-alpha 1] de armis Pierzchała (19 August 174127 August 1823)[1] was an Archbishop of Warsaw[2] and a Senator of Congress Poland.[3]

He was the son of Basil and Mary Hołowczyc (née Ostaszkiewicz), who came from a Belarusian noble family located near Pinsk. He was ordained in 1772. From 1774 to 1776, he traveled Europe for scientific purposes; upon returning to Poland, he was made secretary to Andrzej Młodziejowski[4] and later Michał Jerzy Poniatowski.[5] He served as canon at the cathedrals of the Archdiocese of Warsaw in 1781 and of the Archdiocese of Kraków in 1783; he was also dean of the cathedral of the Diocese of Kielce.[4]

Hołowczyc was appointed bishop of Sandomierz on 29 March 1819.[6] On 6 June 1819, he was consecrated as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Sandomierz by Adam Michał Prażmowski, bishop of Płock;[7] he was later made Archbishop of Warsaw in 1820, with Adam Prosper Burzyński succeeding him as Bishop of Sandomierz.[8]

On 17 December 1819, Hołowczyc was appointed Primate of Poland, succeeding Poniatowski.[9][10] He died on 27 August 1823; his funeral was held on 5 September.[11]
