Tahanang Pinakamasaya! (transl.Happiest Home!) is a 2024 Philippine television variety show broadcast by GMA Network. Directed by Moty Apostol, it is hosted by Alexa Miro, Arra San Agustin, Betong Sumaya, Buboy Villar, Cassy Legaspi, Chariz Solomon, Dasuri Choi, Glaiza de Castro, Isko Moreno, Kimpoy Feliciano, Kokoy de Santos, Mavy Legaspi, Michael Sager, Paolo Contis, Winwyn Marquez, and Yasser Marta, with the participation of Music Hero Band and BPop Idols. It premiered on January 6, 2024 on the network's afternoon line up.

Overview

The formation of Tahanang Pinakamasaya! dated back from an internal dispute between TAPE Inc.'s new management (following the forced retirement of TAPE CEO Antonio Tuviera, with a member of the Jalosjos family taking over the position) and the group of long-time hosts from Eat Bulaga! led by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon. As a result of the said dispute, Eat Bulaga! suspended its production after the hosts and production members filed their resignation on May 31, 2023. GMA Network, which was EB's television partner from 1995 until TVJ's resignation, aired replay episodes of Eat Bulaga! in its place under TAPE's instructions from May 31 to June 3, 2023. This resulted in the copyright infringement and unfair competition filed by TVJ at the Marikina City Regional Trial Court on June 30, 2023.[1]

On June 5, the show resumed original programming, with Paolo Contis, Alexa Miro, Betong Sumaya, Buboy Villar, Cassy Legaspi and Mavy Legaspi joining as the new hosts of the show.[2] In the same month, Isko Moreno, Kimpoy Feliciano, and South Korean dancer Dasuri Choi also joined the show.[3][4] During this time, TAPE Inc. continues to claim that they are still the owners of Eat Bulaga! trademark, justifying their claim that they remain as the same variety show created in 1979; however, the court ruled that they did not originate the term Eat Bulaga!, and they registered its trademark in bad faith because the copyright is with Joey de Leon as he originally conceived the said term.[5][6]

On December 4, 2023, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) released a decision granting the petition of De Leon and the Sotto brothers to cancel TAPE Inc.'s trademark registration of Eat Bulaga!. The IPOPHL decision held that De Leon and the Sotto brothers proved that they are the original owners of the name and thus have the absolute and exclusive right to its registration.[7] TAPE Inc. continued to use the name anyway, with host Paolo Contis expressing defiance and insisting that the IPOPHL decision had not attained finality.[8]

In a decision dated December 22, 2023 by the Marikina City Regional Trial Court Branch 273, Judge Romeo Dizon Tagra directed the defendants, TAPE Inc., to pay P2 million in temperate damages, P500,000 in exemplary damages, and P500,000 in attorney's fees to plaintiffs Tito and Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon (TVJ) and their creative partner, Jenny Ferre, for committing unfair competition and copyright infringement. Tagra issued a permanent injunction against TAPE Inc. and GMA Network, prohibiting the use of Eat Bulaga!’s trademarks, including logos, songs, promos, and all episodes recorded before May 31, for its current programming. The decision implied that TAPE's use of Eat Bulaga! upon resuming original production was illegal, and that it produced what was seen by many as a very new variety show different from Eat Bulaga! itself. On January 5, 2024, the decision was served upon the lawyers of De Leon and the Sotto brothers and was announced to the public.

On January 6, 2024, TAPE Inc. followed the subsequent court decision and permanently changed the name of their noontime show into Tahanang Pinakamasaya![5] On the same day, TV5's variety show by TVJ Productions has dropped its placeholder title, E.A.T., and began to use the original Eat Bulaga! title for the first time in almost seven months.[9]
