The Click is the second studio album by American pop band AJR. It was released on June 9, 2017, by the band's label AJR Productions. The album was preceded by the five-track extended play What Everyone's Thinking in September 2016, which was composed of songs that all appear on The Click.[2]

Background and release

Following the release of AJR's debut studio album Living Room and the album's corresponding tour, the band began releasing singles. "Let the Games Begin" was the first of these, released on October 23, 2015.[3] The song was featured in promotion for The Click,[4] but does not appear on the album for unknown reasons. On December 18, 2015, "Call My Dad" was released as a promotional single, and is the earliest released song of the album.[5]

In March 2016, the band released "I'm Not Famous" as a single,[6] which was later featured on the trio's 2016 EP What Everyone's Thinking.[7] All songs on the five-track EP were later included on The Click,[8] including the song "Weak", which later became its lead single.[9] "Drama" was released as the second single on May 11, 2017,<[10] and the album was released on June 9, 2017.[11] After the album's release, "Sober Up", which features Rivers Cuomo of Weezer was sent to contemporary hit radio as the album's third single on March 20, 2018.[12] In late October 2021, “The Good Part” went viral on TikTok, which led to the song being released to US radio in late 2021, after the release of the trio's album OK Orchestra. A music video for the song was released on November 24, 2021.[13]

Commercial performance

The Click debuted at number 61 on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the group's first appearance on the chart.[14] As of May 2019, the album had earned 590,000 album-equivalent units in the United States and accumulated a total of 631.1 million on-demand audio streams for its tracks.[14] As of December 2023, the album has amassed over 1.89 billion on-demand audio streams.

Use in media

"Overture" was featured as the soundtrack of a trailer for Pixar's animated film Soul (2020).[15][16]
