Vijayapal was a Jadaun Rajput ruler who traced his descent from the Surasena dynasty of Mathura[1][2] and ruled the areas which later became Karauli, Dholpur and Bharatpur. He is mentioned in an inscription dated 1043 and is credited with the construction of the Bayana fort (also known as Vijaymandirgarh or Bijai Garh).
Ghaznavid Invasion
The Ghaznavid forces led by their commander Abu Bakr Kandhari stormed the Bayana fort in 1047 CE.[3] The Rajputs were defeated and their women committed jauhar in the fort. He was killed in battle and buried outside Bayana. The Rajputs moved further south and his successor Tahanpala (also called Tribhuvanpala or Tawanpal) constructed the Timangarh fort.
