The New York Subliners are an American professional Call of Duty League (CDL) esports team based in New York City, New York. The team is owned by NYXL, an esports organization owned by Sterling Equities subsidiary Sterling.VC.[1] New York was announced as one of the first five cities to own a spot in the CDL.[2]
History
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
NYSL entered the CDL with high expectations due to their veteran filled lineup led by ZooMaa.[3] These expectations were halted quickly, with the team suffering frequent losses at the Launch Weekend event. The underperforming continued into the following events for the Subliners, ultimately leading to the team's first roster change; in which they acquired "Mack".[4]
This new addition of Mack also brought along a new energy to the team, one ready to compete. This is exactly what they did when they defeated fan-favorite Chicago Huntsmen during week 6, winning in a unanimous 3–0 fashion.[5] Success managed to just elude the reach of the team for the remainder of the season, as they went on to an anticlimactic finish of 5th in the league overall.[6]
The Subliners faced obstacles early with team composition. This came in January 2021 when Tommy 'ZooMaa' Paparatto, veteran Call of Duty professional and league starter shockingly announced his retirement.[7] The team responded with the addition of amateur player, Conor 'Diamondcon' Johst to fill this position.[8]
Call of Duty: Vanguard
The Call of Duty team of NYSL had been struggling in the Respawn game mode for quite some time, and they were looking for a way to turn things around. That's when they picked up a player named KiSMET, who had been making waves in the competitive scene for his exceptional skills. KiSMET's addition to the team was a game-changer, and he immediately showed his worth in the Respawn game mode.
With KiSMET on board, NYSL was able to make a strong comeback in the 2022 Vanguard Pro Am Classic, which was KiSMET's first event back in the CDL after Modern Warfare. The team played flawlessly, and KiSMET's contributions were crucial in their victory. He showed incredible precision with his shots, flawless movement, and the ability to make clutch plays that turned the tide of the game in NYSL's favor. Thanks to KiSMET's exceptional performance, NYSL emerged as the champions of the 2022 Vanguard Pro Am Classic, much to the delight of their fans. It was a defining moment for the team, and it showed that they had what it takes to compete at the highest level. KiSMET's arrival had breathed new life into the team, and they were now a force to be reckoned with in the competitive scene.
NYSL's fortunes took a turn for the better after they picked up KiSMET, who proved to be a valuable addition to the team. Their incredible performances had allowed them to secure a spot at the Call of Duty Champs 2022, after a cinderella story run at Major 4 hosted by NYSL in Brooklyn, New York. KiSMET and HyDra put on a phenomenal performance that propelled them to second place at the event, just falling short of the championship.Despite missing out on the top spot, their outstanding performance had earned them a spot at the highly coveted Call of Duty Champs 2022, which was a remarkable achievement considering their struggles earlier in the season. With KiSMET on the team, HyDra was able to continue performing at a high level, which was critical to their qualification for the champs.
The addition of KiSMET had proven to be a game-changer for NYSL, and his contributions had allowed the team to go from struggling to one of the best teams in the league. It was a testament to their hard work and dedication, and they had shown that anything is possible with the right team chemistry and talent. The Call of Duty Champs 2022 would be the ultimate test for NYSL, and they were ready to take on the best teams in the world with KiSMET and Hydra leading the team going into the 2023 season.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The New York Subliners continued to build their roster for the 2023 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 season, and they made two significant additions in the form of Priestahh and Skyz. With HyDra and KiSMET already on board, these new signings added more firepower to an already formidable lineup. At the first tournament of the season, Major 1 hosted by the league in Raleigh, North Carolina, NYSL put on an impressively dominant performance. They won their matches with ease and were able to take the championship in style, showcasing their skills and teamwork.
In the finals of the tournament, KiSMET once again proved to be the standout performer for NYSL, and he was awarded MVP of the event for his incredible performance. He showed exceptional precision with his shots, flawless movement, and the ability to make clutch plays that turned the tide of the game in NYSL's favor. The addition of Priestahh and Skyz had added more depth to the NYSL roster, and it had paid dividends in their dominant performance at Major 1. They had set the tone for the rest of the season, and it was clear that they were one of the teams to beat in the league. With HyDra & KiSMET leading the charge and the rest of the team firing on all cylinders, the New York Subliners were ready to take on all comers and establish themselves as one of the best teams in the world.
