Nirej (Persian: نيرج, also Romanized as Nīrej, Nayrej, Neyarīj, Nīārej, Nīārīj, Nīrej, and Nīrīj; also known as Nīrach and Tīzaj)[3] is a village in, and the capital of, Kharaqan-e Gharbi Rural District of the Central District of Avaj County, Qazvin province, Iran.[4]

At the 2006 National Census, its population was 151 in 43 households, when it was in the former Avaj District of Buin Zahra County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 788 people in 258 households.[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 481 people in 183 households,[2] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Avaj County.[7]
