Tashan (Persian: تشان), also known as Teshān, formerly Mashhad (مشهد), is a city in, and the capital of, Tashan District of Behbahan County, Khuzestan province, Iran. In July 2013, the village of Mashhad merged with the villages of Ablesh, Chahardahi-ye Asgar, Chahardahi-ye Sohrab, Deh-e Ebrahim, Kalgeh Zar, Masiri, Sarallah, Shahrak-e Taleqani, and Tall Kohneh to form the new city of Tashan.[3]

At the 2006 census, its population (as the total of its constituent villages prior to the merger) was 4,608 in 961 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 4,550 people in 1,141 households.[5] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 4,281 people in 1,159 households,[2] by which time Mashhad had merged with other villages, was renamed Tashan, and was elevated to the status of a city.[3]
