Alex Orji (born November 10, 2003) is an American football quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines.

Early life and high school

Orji attended high school at Sachse. Orji had a breakout junior year completing 226 of his 436 passes for 3,467 yards and 38 touchdowns to 15 interceptions, while also adding 2,113 yards and 39 touchdowns on the ground.[1] Coming out of high school, Orji was rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.[2] Orji originally committed to play college football for the Virginia Tech Hokies.[3][4] However, he de-committed from the Hokies and signed with the Michigan Wolverines.[5][6][7]

College career

In Orji's first season in 2022, he rushed six times for 37 yards and two touchdowns, while also completing his only pass attempt for five yards.[8] In week eight of the 2023 season, Orji carried the ball five times for 27 yards and a touchdown in a win over rival Michigan State.[9] In week thirteen of the 2023 season versus rival Ohio State, Orji rushed twice for 22 yards, as he helped the Wolverines to a win over Ohio State.[10] In the 2023 Big Ten Championship Game, Orji rushed twice for nine yards, as he helped Michigan win the big ten, beating Iowa.[11]

Personal life

Orji has two older brothers, Anfernee and Alston.[12] Anfernee plays for the New Orleans Saints as a linebacker.[13] Alston played linebacker for Vanderbilt and Campbell.[14]
