Josh Wallace (born July 5, 2000) is an American football cornerback for the Michigan Wolverines. He previously played for the UMass Minuteman.
Early life and high school
Wallace was born in Bowie, Maryland and attended high school at DeMatha Catholic. Wallace committed to play college football at the University of Massachusetts.[1][2]
College career
UMass
In the fifth week of the 2019 season, Wallace had a breakout game with eight tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.[3] Wallace finished his first season in 2019 with 31 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble.[4] During the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Wallace finished the season with 12 tackles and five pass deflections.[5] In the 2021 season, Wallace recorded 51 tackles and a team-high 12 pass deflections.[6] In 2022, Wallace tallied 41 tackles with three going for a loss, eight pass deflections, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery.[7] After the conclusion of the 2022 season, Wallace entered the NCAA transfer portal.[8]
During his time with the Minuteman, Wallace was a four-year starter and a team captain.[9][10] Wallace finished his career for UMass with 140 tackles, 28 pass deflections, and three interceptions, while playing in over 2,000 snaps.[11]
Michigan
Wallace transferred to the University of Michigan for the 2023 season.[12][13] Against Penn State on November 11, Wallace totaled two tackles, with one being for a loss, and a pass deflection.[14]
During the 2024 Rose Bowl, played on January 1, 2024 against No. 4 Alabama, Wallace recorded 2 solo tackles and a 4th quarter fumble recovery to help seal the Wolverines' first College Football Playoff victory.[15]
