Josaiah Stewart is an American football defensive end for the Michigan Wolverines. He previously played for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Early life and high school

Stewart was born in The Bronx and attended high school at Everett High School in Everett, Massachusetts. Stewart was rated as a three star prospect, and committed to play college football at the Coastal Carolina University.[1]

College career

Coastal Carolina

During the 2021 season versus Kansas, Stewart set the program single game sack record with 3.5 sacks against the Jayhawks.[2] However a few weeks later, Stewart set the new single game program sack record with four sacks versus Georgia Southern.[3] Stewart finished his true freshman season in 2021 with 43 tackles with 16 going for a loss, 13 sacks, and three forced fumbles.[4] His 13 sacks set a single season school record for sacks, breaking the previous record of ten and a half sacks held by Tarron Jackson.[5] For his performance on the year, Stewart was named first team all Sun Belt.[6] Stewart was also named first team Freshman All American.[7][8] During the 2022 season, Stewart finished the year with 36 tackles with ten being for a loss, three sacks, and a forced fumble.[9] For his performance on the season, Stewart was named second team all Sun Belt.[10] After the conclusion of the 2022 season, Stewart decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal.[11][12]

Stewart finished his two year career at Coastal Carolina with 79 tackles with 25.5 going for a loss, 16 sacks, and four forced fumbles.[13]

Michigan

Stewart decided to transfer to the University of Michigan to continue out his college career.[14][15] In week five of the 2023 season, Stewart recorded five tackles and two sacks, as he helped the Wolverines defeat Nebraska. For his performance on the week, Stewart was named the Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week.[16][17]
