Local elections were held in San Juan on May 14, 2007, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the congressman, and the councilors, six of them in the two districts of the municipality.[1]

Before Elections

The municipal government of San Juan was preparing for the plebiscite for the municipality's cityhood on March 27, 2007, the town's 100th anniversary.[2] The cityhood bill was lapsed into law, more than one month before the elections.

On April 11, 2007, former Mayor Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada Jr. denied the allegations of "rift" between him and his younger half-brother, re-electionist Mayor Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito.[3]

Background

Mayor Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito was on his second term, and he ran for re-election for third term. He was challenged by Grace Domingo-Singson, sister-in-law of Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson.[4]

Vice Mayor Leonardo "Boy" Celles was on his second term, and he ran for re-election for third term. He was challenged again by former Vice Mayor Philip Cezar.[5]

Rep. Ronaldo "Ronny" Zamora was on his second consecutive and fifth non-consecutive term, and he ran for re-election for third consecutive and sixth non-consecutive term. He was challenged again by Atty. Erickson "Eric" Alcovendaz of NPC.

The said bill was lapsed into law even without the sign of the president (in accordance to Article VI, Section 27, Paragraph 1 of the 1987 Constitution).[6]
